R.E. Chatterton joins a local book club for a personal conversation about Good Slave: A Memoir of Faith, Control, and Freedom—and the life behind its pages.

Rachel will share reflections on growing up in North Carolina, life within a high-control religion, and the complicated process of leaving familiar beliefs behind to build a life of her own. She’ll also discuss what it took to turn deeply personal experiences into a memoir and let other people read them.

With time for questions and discussion, this gathering offers readers a chance to explore the book’s themes of identity, belonging, resilience, and starting over. What does freedom look like in everyday life? How do we learn to trust our own voice? And what happens after the final chapter of a memoir, when the author’s life keeps unfolding?

Rachel will also share a glimpse of her life since publishing Good Slave and how her love of storytelling has grown into new creative projects, including The Briar Glen Mysteries.

R.E. Chatterton joins a local women’s 55+ community for an intimate conversation about the experiences that shaped her life—and ultimately led her to become an author.

Rather than a traditional book talk, Rachel will share pieces of the remarkable and sometimes difficult road behind Good Slave: growing up in North Carolina, surviving a life-changing childhood accident, spending much of her life within a high-control religion, navigating loss and major reinvention, and eventually finding the courage to tell her own story in her own words.

The afternoon will be less about giving a presentation and more about conversation, connection, resilience, and what it means to discover who you are after a lifetime of being told who you should be.

Rachel will also answer questions and share a little about what has happened since publishing Good Slave—including the unexpected new creative chapter that followed.
